The vision of this project is to create an iconic transportation network that will enliven the surrounding community\. UCR has an existing tunnel system that conveys piping throughout the campus\. WEBB was required to protect the tunnels in place while designing underground utilities and surface grading\. WEBB used creative grading to ensure approximately 20\-FT of elevation change allowed ADA access throughout the project while keeping access to existing facilities\. A loading dock was proposed along the western side of the building, requiring the use of AutoCAD truck turning templates to make sure trucks could enter and exit safely while maintaining existing grades over the tunnel system\. This project included approximately 15\.5 acres on the hospital’s existing 37\.5 acre developed campus and included the construction of a new five\-story hospital tower, a new two\-story diagnostic and treatment building on the northern portion of the site, a new parking structure housing 1,200 new parking stalls, and the demolition of existing buildings and Parking Lot Y, along with upgrades to the existing on\-site central utility plant\. This project also included two off\-site parking lots to be used by Kaiser Staff and construction personnel during project construction\.
